We'd love to have you join us for church at First United Methodist
this weekend. On this web site you can learn more about the worship services we
offer. You can also learn about other opportunities to make new friends, grow
closer to God and make a difference in the world. We hope to see you this
Sunday!
First United Methodist Church of Edinburg -
"Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors"
Location:
District & Conference Events:
Young Women’s Retreat
The Rio Grande and Southwest Texas United Methodist Women are teaming up to sponsor a Pre-Lenten retreat for young women (ages 18 +).
The retreat will be held at the Mustang Island Retreat Center in Port Aransas on March 13-15.
Registration information is located online at www.gbgm-umc.org/swtxumw.
Men’s Retreat
The McAllen District United Methodist Men are again trekking to the Big Bend area of west Texas. We will leave Thursday, April 30 and return on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 5th. If mild adventure and camaraderie is appealing to you then come along. If the concept of huge open spaces and beautiful empty country is dear to your heart then join us. One of the most anticipated events on these outings is the nightly camp fire and the discussions that spring up around them. If you have never experienced one of them then you have truly missed a great chance for personal introspection and growth. Discussing God, creation, Christ and anything else (no politics) under a spinning canopy of stars that appear so close you could touch them can be an awesome thing.
We have access to a great number of off road vehicles and any one needing a ride will be given one. All we ask is that you share the fuel costs with the owner of the vehicle that you are riding in. Most if not all of our stay will be in tents and I want to stress that we will provide tents for you if you do not have one. Lastly, we buy our food on the way and split the cost between us
Anyone wanting to go with us can contact me at 361-547-5600 (my office) during business hours or on my cell 956-492-5888. Please feel free to call any time with any questions.

A Spiritual Renewal Opportunity
Are you on the Way and want to grow deeper, richer, and wider in faith and devotion? A major international, ecumenical, Christian conference is coming to relatively-close San Antonio this June 21-24. General sessions will include Eugene Peterson (Bible translator of The Message), Richard Foster (Celebration of Discipline), John Ortberg, and others. There will be workshops galore to help us grow in intentional lifelong discipleship. No easy fixes but lots on learning to enjoy walking with Him in the here and now.
Several San Antonio UMC churches are sponsoring the event, along with other deoninations. The economic times are tight, so note that there is per/day registration also. Or do you have friend or family you can stay with in San Antonio? This conference has "caught the eye" of our Pastor Laura and others in our RGV community. Take a look at: www.renovare.org/2009ic.htm and consider if you'd like to take advantage of a nearby blessing! If you have more questions call Ki Brush at 318-1501. |
